The Adam Williams Initiative is a philanthropic foundation endorsed by the Brain Trauma Foundation (BTF), the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) and the National Foundation for Trauma Care (NFTC).

ONE MOTHER’S MIRACLE

Unfortunately, accidents can happen at any time. For Nancy Williams, the nightmare began when her son, Adam, suffered traumatic brain injury as a result of a motorcycle accident. Nancy and her family were lucky. After long nights sleeping on hospital floors, holding her son's hand, and hoping against all odds–Adam became another success story for Mission Hospital and their cutting edge traumatic brain injury care. Nancy was so appreciative of the efforts to save her son that she went on to found the Adam Williams Initiative. With its goal of establishing a higher standard of care for traumatic brain injury patients, the Initiative will introduce Mission Hospital's traumatic brain injury care protocols to trauma centers nationwide.

Since experiencing her son’s agonizing struggle for life and, ultimately, his complete recovery from severe traumatic brain injuries stemming from a horrific motorcycle accident, Nancy Williams has been instrumental in providing both the energy and the funds needed to fight the debilitating effects of traumatic brain injury. Projected to open in the Fall of 2009, this Intensive Care Unit will begin a new chapter in traumatic brain injury patient care, trauma team education, and training which will touch lives throughout the world.
